RISK OF DEVELOPING AN INHIBITOR
About 1 in 3 people with severe hemophilia A may develop inhibitors at some time in their lives.18, 19 In people with severe hemophilia B, inhibitors develop in only about 1 in 25 people.20 The risk of getting inhibitors is higher in: children, people who have severe hemophilia, people with a family history of inhibitors, and people of African descent.19, 21
On average, most inhibitors will occur after 5 to 50 treatments with factor replacement therapy and before the age of 5 years. Inhibitors cannot be prevented and can occur at any time.22 |
