THOMAS C. HOFSTRA, MD
Dr. Hofstra was born in Prescott, Arizona and graduated from Wheaton College, in Wheaton, Illinois in 1983 with honors. Thereafter he attended Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois and graduated in 1988.
He completed his residency at Loyola University Medical Center in 1992 and was a fellow at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles in the Divison of Hematology-Oncology in 1992 - 1995. In 1995, Dr. Hofstra was recruited to join the Division of Hematology-Oncology at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles and the Department of Pediatrics of the USC School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor. In 1999 Dr. Hofstra was appointed "Clinical Director of Hematology" for the Childrens Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases.
Dr. Hofstra has given lectures and presentations throughout Southern California and the United States on Sickle Cell Disease, Thrombophilia, Hemophilic Emergencies, Thrombocytopenia just to name a few. Dr. Hofstra has participated in numerous abstracts & publications to various journals.
He continues to be actively involved in the care of children of all ages with all types of blood diseases. He volunteers his time as a camp physician for Camp Blood Brothers and Sisters and with the teen impact program at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, the only program of its kind in southern California. Here, teens get to meet other teens who share the same common experience and help each other meet the challenges of both illness and growing up. |
